Why transformer never work on DC supply? :-
Why transformer never work on DC supply? |
The transformer work on principle of mutual induction for which current in one coil must change uniformly. If the DC supply is given the current will not change due to constant supply & transformer will not work.
Practically winding resistance is very small for DC the inductive reactance is XL=0, because DC has no frequency. So total impedance of winding is very low for DC. Thus winding will draw very high current if DC supply is given to it.
Why transformer never work on DC supply? |
This may cause burning of winding due to extra heat generated and may cause permanent damage to the transformer, their can be saturation of core due to which transformer draw very large current from the supply when connected to DC supply.

What is meant by Transformer? |
The
transformer is a static device by means of which electric power is transfer
from one alternating current circuit to another with desire change in voltage
and current without any change in frequency is called Transformer.
1) Transformer is a device which
transfer electric power from one circuit to another circuit.
2) It does so without change of
frequency.
3) It is achieve by electromagnetic induction.
4) When to electric circuit are in mutual inductive influence of each other transfer of power takes place.
